What Your Face Mask Says About You

If there’s one piece of essential coronavirus equipment, it’s the face mask. New York City residents have been instructed to wear a mask at all times when out in public - even when jogging. Many grocery stores and other businesses refuse entry to those not wearing a mask.

Now we all know that some people still haven’t cottoned on the importance of wearing a face mask, however, most people have embraced this new addition to our wardrobes with enthusiasm, creativity and thoroughness. There are a plethora of options available online now, from Gucci and Louis Vuitton printed washables to nuclear-winter ready complete head coverings.

Let’s have a look at what your face mask says about you.

The Bougie

Classy, bougie, ratchet. This mask wearer is relishing in the chance to finally be able to wear designer prints all over their face. Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Burberry.… Of course, these masks aren’t really designer - although these brands have been heroically helping to manufacture medical face masks, they are yet to release commercial or branded masks. But there are plenty of prints to be found online, and so long as it looks the part, who really cares?

The Medic

This person ordered 3000 disposable surgical masks back in February and is still working through them. All their friends, who had called them “paranoid,” soon came asking to “borrow a few” when everywhere had sold out by March. They’re hygienic, considerate, prepared - and generous - they’ll leave you a small batch in a ziploc bag for doorstep pick up if you ask nicely.

The Washable

This person probably ordered their masks on Etsy, from a range of independent artists and in a range of colors and prints, so they could look cute while protecting themselves and others, support small business and be eco-friendly while doing it.

The Set

This family of five ordered an entire matching set so that the kids would think this was fun and not apocalyptic. Don’t they look adorable?

The Statement

This person is using their mask to make a statement. “You’re too close” was a popular buy for a while, but more recently we’ve been seeing Black Lives Matter protestors utilizing their masks to double down their message and display solidarity.

The Privileged

This person is rich and/or famous and is ignoring the advice that N95 masks should be reserved for medical personnel. They’re wearing a custom, high-tech, replaceable filter, N95-certified mask at $99 a piece, and they don’t care who knows it.

The Make-Do

Whether it be a bandana, a piece of cloth, an old t-shirt, or just their hand - this person refuses to spend money on something when they can make-do with what they have at home.

The Conspiracy Theorist

This person ain’t taking no chances. They’re donning a full-on gas mask and HAZMAT suit whenever they leave their house - which is only to get mail or take out the trash.

The Mouth Breather

This person doesn’t believe in protecting themselves or others. This person possibly thinks that 5G causes coronavirus. This person feels that their rights are being infringed upon when they are told what to wear in public. This person is a mouth breather. Don’t be this person.

So, what does your face mask say about you?
